Land Defense
Land Defense
When it comes to land defense, thyssenkrupp Materials NA specializes in metal and plastic used to build vehicles whether it’s in vehicle structure or vehicle armoring. Material is used to create the internal fixtures and structures of armored vehicles while externally, metal is used for armoring, up-armoring, or retrofitting of existing land combat vehicles. This includes the armoring and structuring of vehicles. The most commonly supplied metals from thyssenkrupp Materials NA are aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and bronze.
Aluminum Used for Defense
The defense industry has a strong and ongoing need for aluminum, a metal used widely in the construction of military equipment, particularly in the exterior bodies of tanks, land ships and armored vehicles. Since military vehicles and equipment must be able to operate reliably in extreme conditions, aluminum alloys are often used for components in weapons, land vehicles, and body armor.
Aluminum has a high strength-to-weight ratio and extreme corrosion resistance. Aluminum is also the perfect low-cost material for vehicles and equipment where weight is an important determinant. The lightweight strength of aluminum increases fuel efficiency and reduces overall equipment weight while maintaining a high level of strength, durability, and protection.
Aluminum Aloys, Tempers, and Specifications for Land Defense
Below are the most commonly sought-after aluminum alloys, tempers, and specifications used for land defense. The specifications not only include the chemical and mechanical properties of the metal, but also include the ballistic requirements that are needed to save lives and protect property by absorbing the energy of projectiles, impacts, and crashes.
