Machined Parts for High Performance
Machined Parts for High Performance
Because corrosion can lead to structural failure, manufacturers must prevent it at all costs. Food manufacturers need parts that are easy to clean and non-contaminating. Packaging manufacturers require long lasting parts that hold up in high speed manufacturing environments.
There’s a simple solution to these – and many other – problems: Nylon. Bearings, gears and wear pads made from Nylon are high-performing alternative to metal parts and assemblies. When you switch to Nylon, you’ll not only notice that the transition is seamless, but that Nylon parts offer numerous benefits as well.
Reasons to Switch to Nylon
- Lightweight (just 1/7 the weight of bronze)
- Less need for lubrication
- Noise dampening
- Improved wear resistance
- Corrosion resistant
Extruded Nylon 6/6
Extruded Nylon 6/6 rod can be an ideal replacement for metal gears, bearing and wear parts in dry environments. Nylon 6/6 is one of the most popular machinable plastic materials due to its advantageous mechanical characteristics and low cost. At OnlinePlastics, we maintain an inventory of Nylon from top manufacturers such as Cast Nylon, Ensinger, Rochling, and Quadrant. Common brand names for nylon include:
- SUSTAMID®
- TECAMID®
- NYCAST®
Extruded Nylon 6/6 Sheet
Extruded Nylon 6/6 Sheet
Extruded Nylon sheets aren’t that different from blank canvases; they can both become anything you want. Nylon parts offer several distinct advantages, and in many cases are a viable alternative to metal. Nylon is one of the most popular machinable plastics due to its unique combination of properties and performance.

Nylon 6/12
Nylon 6/12 Rod
Nylon 6/12 Rod
Nylon 6/12 is a good choice for applications where the nylon parts may be exposed to higher temperatures and wet conditions. Although nylon 6/12 has properties that are similar to Nylon 6/6, it has a higher temperature rating and on average a lower water absorption rate than Nylon 6/6.

Cast Nylon 6
Cast Nylon 6 Rod
Cast Nylon 6 Rod
Noted as one of the original Engineered Plastics, Cast nylon is a standard for numerous industrial applications. Cast nylon is commonly used to make bearings, bushings, washers, seals, gears, guides, rollers, wear plates, fasteners, insulators, forming dies, sleeves, liners, cooling fans and many other parts. Properties of cast nylon 6 include high wear and abrasion resistance, a low coefficient of friction and a high strength to weight ratio.
In addition nylon is corrosion resistant to alkalis and organic chemicals. Cast nylon is typically used in dry environments as it does have some ability to absorb moisture. However, nylon 6/12 is an alternative for wet environments. Overall nylon is non-abrasive, and it is often chosen to replace metal parts because of its noise dampening characteristics. Cast nylon is also a good electrical insulator. Cast nylon is available in sheet, rod, and tube and USDA and FDA compliant grades are available along with filled versions to enhance specific properties.
Cast 6 Nylon Tube
Cast 6 Nylon Tube
Cast 6 nylon tubes are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes. These cast nylon tubes come unfilled, oil filled, or MDS filled.
Cast nylon 6 is one of the oldest and most widely used thermoset engineering plastics. Cast nylon 6 is similar to it’s extruded 6/6 counterpart but it does have some difference. Cast nylon 6 is typically less costly to produce. Because of the casting process nylon 6 can also be made into large geometry shapes such as tubes.
The casting process causes less stress than the extruding process which means nylon 6 has better dimensional stability. Cast 6 nylon is often used to make near net shapes. If you are looking for near net shapes or large geometry cast nylon, thyssenkrupp Engineered Plastics is a supplier of CastNylon and Quadrant.
These cast nylon products are special order and minimum quantities may need to be met so call us today with your specifications and we will help you to get the best possible pricing. 866-837-0679.
