  • HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

High density polyethylene (HDPE) offers superior corrosion resistance, a higher working temperature range, and higher tensile strength over Low density polyethylene (LDPE). HDPE outperforms low density polyethylene in both physical and chemical properties. However, HDPE is less flexible than low density polyethylene. HDPE is FDA compliant as well as USDA and NSF standards. It can be sterilized by boiling. Outdoor exposure is similar to low density polyethylene.

Heat distortion temperature: 170°F.

Color: semi–opaque.

Common uses include food processing applications. Thin gauge sheets are popular in silk screen, offset lithography and foil stamping applications. It is also used in municipal water systems. HDPE make an excellent wear strip material due to its long life and smooth surface.

HDPE is ultra strong and tough and has a virtually unlimited hinge flex life. It is extremely versatile for many applications. High density polyethylene is impervious to most common chemicals, water, solvents, acids, detergents and cleaning fluids.

High Density Polyethylene stress relieved sheet is easy to fabricate. Additionally it is chemically inert making it a popular choice for applications where exposure to harsh chemicals is possible. It is lightweight and non-staining, and non-toxic as well as FDA compliant.

Thickness: 0.06" - 1"

Color: Natual

Length: 48"

Width: 96"

Grade: GP

HDPE Features:

  • FDA, USDA, NSF Compliant

  • Available in colors

  • Excellent chemical resistance

  • Resistant to acids, cleaners, solvents, detergents

  • Can be sterilized

  • Virtually unlimited hinge flex life

  • A good option where LDPE does not provide enough stiffness and strength

HDPE Cutting Boards:

thyssenkrupp Engineered Plastics offers custom cut HDPE cutting boards for the food service industry. HDPE cutting boards are compliant to FDA, USDA, and NSF requirements. Cutting boards are made from a stress relieved high density white HDPE with a pebble surface. They will not crack, splinter, swell or absorb liquids or odors. HDPE cutting boards can be sterilized by boiling and clean easily in a dishwasher or use of hot water and soap.

Another name for HDPE is King Starboard.
